WOW!!! 2018 is finally here and resolutions are being made. Everyone and their moms has something related to health and fitness on their list. They want to lose weight, get a six pack or be able to run a 5K or lift a certain amount of weight!
Understandably, the beginning of the year is a perfect time to reset and look for ways to improve on self. This is the time to start with a clean slate and forgive yourself for all the mistakes of 2017.
Let’s take a step back and resist the urge to jump on the next dieting trend. We all hear the noise and easily fall into the trendy traps floating around.
Homeostasis is the key to making your body do what you want it to do!!
Homeostasis in simple terms is the stability or equilibrium of your bodily systems.
Bodily systems that need to be in balance include endocrine, digestive, respiratory, nervous and muscular systems.
The way to get all these systems in balance is to achieve and maintain optimal blood sugar levels. The optimal blood sugar level is between 80 – 120 mg/dl.
This simple illustration holds the key to convincing your body to do what you want. Within the optimal blood sugar level, the body is in that AMAZING FAT BURNING ZONE!!!!
Whether you want to lose weight, gain muscle or simply get healthy, this is the key!!!
Now doing this takes some work and dedication just like anything that is worth having.
There are 5 major components that will help give your body this homeostasis that it yearns for:
Concentrating on these 5 elements will give you the tools needed to reach all your goals. These will serve as the foundation of your optimal health. Small changes to each of these elements will yield results one way or another.

Sleep is Ultra Important
Sleep is often overlooked in the busy lifestyles of today. Many do not place emphasis on sleep in today’s world that preaches the grind.
If you want anything in life, it’s taught you have to work, work, work.
In health and fitness, you must start with sleeping in order to charge your body up to perform at peak levels when you are awake.
According to Venice Nutrition, the best comparison is to the cell phone. You would not expect your cell phone to work all day if you didn’t charge it the night before. So, why do we expect that of our bodies??
Everyone’s required amount of sleep is different. Some need more and some need less.
First step is to figure out what your optimal amount of sleep is.
Eat More to Achieve Your Goals
Most people are not eating frequently enough to achieve their fitness goals.
That sounds crazy, right??? Eat More???
Well, eat the right foods in the right amounts more often is a little more precise.
There are 3 important things to remember when considering meals:
- Macros per meal (protein, fat & carbs)
- Calories per meal
- Meal Intervals
In order to keep your blood sugar in the happy zone, we must tweak these 3 components to match our bodies’ needs.
Time to Hit the Weights
Sleep and nutrition are essential to allowing your body to release stored fat. Exercise is how the body burns that released fat.
In order to turn your body into a fat burning machine, we must build muscle. Cardio is important, but we must not neglect muscle building.
Muscle burns fat. We must activate as much muscle fiber as possible to burn as much fat as possible.
Muscle burns approximately 30 – 50 calories per day. Start building muscle.
Be Careful with Selecting Supplements
There is no substitution for real, whole food. But, it is nearly impossible to get all of the nutrients, vitamins and minerals that are needed from an average diet.
In some cases, supplements are needed, but do not overdo it!!
Every body is a little different and can benefit from different sets of supplements.
Water is Super-Essential
The human body is made of more than 50% water. Water serves so many purposes in the body and you can only survive about 5 days without it.
In order to get your cells in the optimal environment for good health and metabolism, you must drink enough water.
The amount of water each individual needs to ingest depends on body weight and activity level. Each person is different.
You would be hard pressed to find any body function that does not need water. So, DRINK IT!!!
